HOW TO PREPARE FOR DENTAL TREATMENT ABROAD

Guide · 28 February 2024

Dental treatment abroad sounds complicated — but it is not. With the right preparation, your visit to Belgrade will be more organised than a visit to your local dentist. This guide covers everything you need to know before you leave.

1. Start with a free online consultation

Before you book your flight, send us photos of your teeth and describe the problem. Within 24 hours Dr Marko sends you a rough treatment plan and price estimate. No obligations.

This helps you know exactly how many days you need to stay, what the total cost is and what the order of procedures is. No surprises when you arrive in Belgrade.

2. Prepare your documentation

The more information you bring, the better we can plan your treatment. Old dental X-rays are especially useful — even if they are a year or two old.

What to bring:

  • Passport or ID (valid)

  • List of medications you take

  • Allergy information (especially to anaesthesia)

  • X-rays or tooth photos (if you have them)

  • Documentation of previous dental work

  • Your local dentist's contact details

  • Travel insurance

  • Comfortable clothing for the clinic

3. Organise your trip

Direct flights from Frankfurt, Vienna and Zurich to Belgrade take between 1h30 and 2 hours. Belgrade has a good range of accommodation — from hostels to boutique hotels — at prices significantly lower than in Western Europe.

Accommodation planning: we recommend apartments or hotels near the clinic (central Belgrade). Taxi from the airport costs around €15–20. Uber works in Belgrade.

We coordinate the clinic appointment — you just book the flight and accommodation. If you have questions, our team helps you with all the accompanying details.

4. The day before and day of treatment

The day before treatment: do not consume alcohol. Get a good night's sleep. If you take blood pressure, heart or diabetes medication — take it on your usual schedule.

Day of treatment: eat a normal meal before arriving (unless sedation or general anaesthesia is planned — in that case stay fasting). Arrive 10 minutes before your appointment.

After treatment: have someone to take you home if sedation was performed. For other procedures you can go alone. Avoid physical exertion that day.

Frequently asked questions

What do I need to bring for dental treatment abroad?

Passport or ID, a list of current medications, allergies and previous dental work (photos if you have them), and your local dentist's contact details. We coordinate everything else.

Can I use my European health card (EHIC) in Serbia?

Serbia is not in the EU, so the EHIC card does not apply here. We recommend travel insurance covering emergency medical care. For planned treatment, you pay the clinic directly and can request reimbursement from your private insurer.

How far in advance do I need to book?

We recommend booking at least 2–4 weeks in advance, especially for more complex work. For urgent cases and painful situations, we try to find a slot within 48–72 hours.

What if something happens during treatment?

All our procedures follow EU safety standards. We only perform procedures we are certain are in your best interest. In case of complications, we take care of you and coordinate with your local doctor after you return home.

Want to know the exact price for your case?
