MILENA, 63 — THE END OF DENTURES AFTER 8 YEARS
Patient story · 4 June 2026
Milena has been living in Vienna for 22 years. She has worn a denture since the age of 55. Eight years of sores, of it falling out, and nights with the denture in a glass beside the bed. Six months ago she said enough. Five days in Belgrade. Now she has fixed teeth that are never removed.
"Every evening I took it out"
Milena did not immediately accept the denture as a permanent solution. She thought she would get used to it.
"For the first year I struggled. The denture caused sores, fell out at the worst moments, food got underneath. The doctor adjusted and adapted it — a little better, but never good.
What bothered me most was not the discomfort. It was the feeling. Every evening I took my teeth out and put them in a glass. At 55. I could not come to terms with that."
Milena heard about All on 4 from a work colleague whose sister had implants placed in Belgrade.
"She told her they were like real ones. That she never takes them out. That she eats whatever she wants. I couldn't believe it."
Fear of surgery
Milena did not get in touch straight away. For months she researched, read and watched videos.
"I was afraid of the surgery. I'm 63, I was wondering whether it was safe, whether I would handle it well. And of course — the price in Vienna was €21,000. That was the end of the conversation."

"When I saw the price of €4,700 in Belgrade — I thought something was wrong. I called to ask what the catch was. The doctor explained — same materials, same implants, it's just that the cost of labour and living in Serbia is lower. Yes, that sounds like a marketing story, but I decided to book the free consultation and see."
The online consultation lasted twelve minutes. Dr Marko explained the procedure to her, showed what could be done based on the photographs, gave the exact price.
"He was direct. He told me what was possible and what was not. And he told me that at my age and with my health there was no reason to be afraid. That was enough for me."
Five days in Belgrade
Milena arrived on Sunday evening. She asked her son to come with her — more for moral than physical support.
Sunday
Arrival in Belgrade.
Monday
X-ray and planning. Dr Marko reviewed the scan and confirmed the plan.
Tuesday
Placement of four implants under local anaesthesia. An hour and a half. No pain.
Wednesday
Check-up. Swelling present — normal functioning.
Thursday
Fitting of the temporary bridge.
Friday
Check-up and return to Vienna.
"I sat in the chair and listened carefully. I heard the drill, felt pressure. There was no pain. The worst part was the anaesthesia injection — and that passed in a second. An hour and a half later — done."
"When they fitted the temporary bridge and told me to stand up and look in the mirror — I didn't know what to say. I saw myself with teeth. Real. Fixed. Mine."
Six months later
Milena returned to Belgrade six months later for the definitive bridge.
"For the first six months I ate soft food — but I lived normally. Went to work, saw friends. Nobody knew I had had surgery.
When they fitted the definitive bridge — that was something else. They looked perfect. Naturally white, proportional, mine."
"The first thing I did when I got back to Vienna? Went for lunch with my son and ordered a steak. A real steak. Something I hadn't been able to eat for eight years."

What would Milena say to others?
"I waited eight years. Eight years of sores, of it falling out, of compromise.
If I had known it was this simple — I would not have waited eight days.
The fear of surgery was irrational. The fear of the cost disappeared when I heard Belgrade. The only thing that remained was inertia — the habit of living with the problem.
If you wear a denture and are unhappy — book a consultation. It's free. Talk to the doctor. See what's possible. Maybe you will, like me, regret only that you didn't do it sooner."
